RAILROAD BALLAST is used for bedding of railroad tracks. The ballast provides bedding to provide a stable load-bearing foundation that supports the rails and cross members, allows for proper drainage, and helps maintain track stability.
It distributes the weight of the trains, locks the cross members in place to prevent movement, and absorbs vibrations for a smoother ride.
Crushed, angular stone is used to prevent movement once the stone is installed and locked in place. The most common stone type used is granite for its hardness, although limestone and others are used in various applications.
